Classification Systems
Binomial Classification is the system used when giving biota a scientific name. This name is made up of two parts; the Genus and the specific epithet. For example the thermophile Pyrococcus furiosus the genus of this thermophile is Pyrococcus in Latin and this makes up the first part of the name, the specific epithet is furiosus in Latin. This enables a simplification of many aspects of scientific communication especially because it means that scientists do not need to describe the various characteristics of an organism to identify and discuss it.
